Dryad - MonsterSquad

First of the "Monster Squad" submissions I'll be doing. MS is a loose collaboration of chicago game artists that want to keep doing fun stuff. So our fearless leader rolled some random dice and picked 100 random monsters out of various books. This dryad is the first.

Mine was mostly inspired by the celtic and pictish tree-spirit myths, though I tried to keep to the idea of a living oak. The intent was to create an androgynous creature who was itself attempting to leave it's tree self and become more human, so that it could present itself to a human, for whatever purpose it had. It's not doing terribly well at that.

Fun side fact: Those awesome yeti grass suits snipers wear called "Gillie Suits" are actually an irish appropriation of a scottish myth of the Ghillie Duid; swamp and tree spirits who took the form of young men
